Our garden seedlings have been making lots of progress…except for the carrots (top left container). But, the seed packet does say that carrots do take longer to germinate, so I just need some patience I guess! The kids and I planted these on May 1st and noticed the first little leaves poking through the soil on May 8th (only 1 week!). This is so exciting!!
As luck would have it, my dining room window faces south – so now that’s our officially “baby plant zone”. The big kids squeal with delight every morning as they check up on our new little lives’ that we are nurturing.

Now that Mother’s Day has come and gone, our chance for frost is pretty minimal…so this week I need to get busy actually building the garden for these little guys!

What about you…do you start your seedlings indoors, or outdoors? Or, do you just go and buy the plants that the garden center has started already? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated…afterall, this is my first vegetable garden!
Happy Growing!

Wow, really admire the manner in which you went about successfully planting your seeds inside. I never thought about using things like egg crates as potential pots. Way to recycle! With moving ahead of me in a couple months, I can’t get started on my own garden this year, but I can’t wait to use your tactics next year for my organic vegetable garden!
Thanks! This is a little embarrassing, but I actually got the idea from watching “Peep and the Big Wide World” with my kids. See…you’re never too old to learn! I also found via Pinterest that you can hollow-out lemon or other citrus fruits and plant seeds inside those as well. An added bonus to that method is that you can stick the whole thing in the garden…I might have to try that next year.
Thanks again for stopping by!
Hahaha, you know, whatever works! If it’s a TV show with the kids that gets us where we need to be, let it be.
Ooh! I love that idea of hollowing out fruits to create little pots! It’s kind of like composting, but not. Thanks for the great idea. I’m going to have to try that out as well.
